Taylorsville Police arrested a Stony Point man Thursday night and might have prevented an armed robbery in the process. Officers were conducting a Check Point on US 64/90 when a vehicle turned to avoid the check. Taylorsville Police along with the Alexander County Sheriffs Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol pursued the vehicle and stopped it on Ezekiel Lane. The driver 26 year old Ricky David Chagnon was arrested after a brief foot chase into a wooded area. It was discovered the suspect had outstanding warrants from Iredell County. Chagnon was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, and Probation Violation. Officers found a Halloween skull mask in the vehicle as well as a sawed off shotgun, and over 70 shells in 3 ammo belts. Chagnon was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $28,000 secured bond with a Monday, November 23rd initial Court Date in Taylorsville.
