The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of 29 year old Mathew Trenton Leeth of Livingston, Louisiana. Leeth faces 19 charges of felony animal cruelty and 19 counts of animal abandonment.
Multiple dead dogs and birds were found at a location off Bolick Road in the Bethlehem Community. According to County Sheriff Chris Bowman, Leeth was renting the building. At least two dogs were discovered in a freezer. Several animals were emaciated but still clinging to life.
In addition to the dogs, multiple birds were found dead as well. Bowman estimates the animals had not been fed in seven to ten days. Leeth contends that someone was hired to attend to the animals but they have yet to be found.
Alexander County Animal Control assisted in the investigation.
Leeth is being held in the County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
