According to Sheriff Chris Bowman 911 received a call around 8 pm concerning shots being fired from a vehicle on Millersville Road. Reports were the driver of a black Lexus was firing shots. The is no indication of any injuries or any damage to property.
Officers with the Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle on Wayside Church Road near the intersection of Rink Dam Road. A 22 caliber handgun was recovered after a search. It was discovered the pistol was stolen from Burke County and had been the service revolver of an Avery County Sheriff Deputy.
Taken into custody was 25 year old Michael Dwayne Stacy II of Stacy Lane, Taylorsville. Stacy was charged with felony going armed to the terror of the public, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession stolen property. Stacy was transported to the County Detention Center and held under a $20,000 secured bond.
Sheriff Bowman says he has “no idea why the suspect was firing a weapon.” Bowman also indicated there was a female passenger and a child in the vehicle at the time of arrest. With regards to the infant, the Department of Social Services was notified.
Stacy has an initial court appearance scheduled for Monday, June 26th.
