The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a home invasion.
A woman who lives at a location off North Thomas Street in Stony Point called 911 around 7:30 this morning stating that she had been tied up in her home. She claims she was bound with a rope by the neck and had her hands tied behind her back. She told investigators she was able to free herself and go to a neighbor’s residence and all Law Enforcement.
Sheriff Chris Bowman said from the scene that the female says she was coming up the stairs from her basement when she was grabbed and “tied up” although she was not able to offer much of a description of the suspect. She was able to say only “they had a deep voice” but could not say with certainty if the suspect was a male or female.
Bowman said at this time “there is no evidence of anything taken from the home” and the woman was not injured.
Multiple officers responded and as a precaution Stony Point Elementary School and the nearby Small Hands Daycare were placed on a Code In. According the the Alexander County Schools Website a Code In is “used when administration deems a situation requires students be kept contained to the classroom and no immediate danger to students or staff is perceived. This procedure may vary based on individual school sites and situations. During a “Code In”, we keep students inside and strictly monitor outside access. In the past, we have issued this code when there was law enforcement activity in the area such as responding to a bank robbery or chasing a fugitive in the area. Normal everyday operating procedures are very similar to a “Code In”.
The investigation is ongoing.
