A man is in custody after a high speed chase that began in Alexander County this afternoon.
Taylorsville Police Chief Dennis James spotted a vehicle that had been broadcast as stolen in Rock Hill, South Carolina. James says he spotted a Chevy Tahoe passing multiple vehicles going west on Higway 64-90. James activated his blue lights and siren and pusued the driver who refused to stop reching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Other Taylorsville Police Officers joined in the chase along with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. The chase continued into Caldwell County where the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, and Lenoir Police all joined in the pursuit.
The vehicle turned onto Highway 18 where the Highway Patrol deployed stop sticks. The vehicle eventually stopped and the operator was taken into custody. It is thought that the driver and the vehcile were involved in a breaking and entering incident in Yadkin County earlier today.
The operator is being transported to the Alexander County Detention Center and will face a multitude of charges. James said that the driver at this time is “not cooperating at all.” There were no injuries reported, we will continue to following the story
