The Alexander County Board of Education is considering the possibility of using amended bus routes during inclimate weather. Reduced routes are policy in Caldwell, Watauga, Avery, and Ashe Counties. Over the years it’s not uncommon for Alexander County Schools to cancel classes when only 1 to 3 bus routes might encounter some snow or ice. On such occasions those routes would not run but classes would be held. Superintendent of Schools Dr Jennifer Hefner says “The Board is considering Amended Bus Routes as an option on inclimate weather days” She says that several roadways and bus routes have been identified as possible problem areas during the times of ice and snow. Dr Hefner stressed that no decision has been made but the concept is being reviewed by both administration and the Board of Education. A proposal could be on the School Board agenda next month according to Dr Hefner.
