The 24th annual Can Hunger Food Drive set a record this year.
Each Fall, Alexander County’s 7 elementary schools compete to see who can collect the most canned food items. The food helps to stock the shelves at five food pantries across the county. This year more than 45,000 food items were collected. Sugar Loaf Elementary was at the top of the list with more than 21,000 cans. Kim Grogan’s 2nd grade class at Sugar Loaf was the top class with over 7,400 cans collected.
Debra Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the Christian Crisis Center issued a statement thanking the children for their work and the county for their donations.
